Licensure Poll

Hello everybody,

We have a poll for a license for all Wikinews editions going. You might be interested to vote here: m:Wikinews/Licensure Poll.

New license for Wikinews

The Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License was the most supported license in the recent poll.

Many of the options had very few voters. Of the options with more than 12 voters, the GFDL had only 21% support, and the Wikinews License 0.2 had 60% support (or 64% from Wikinewsies). Fewer people voted on the Wikinews License option than on the Creative Commons one, meaning 31 people in total supported CC-BY, compared to just 17 supporting WNL 2.0.

With over 87% support from Wikinewsies in the poll, and 82% support overall, CC-BY has now been agreed upon by the Wikimedia Foundation to be the new license for all existing and future versions of Wikinews. Any edits made previously remain public domain - it is only new edits that will need to be under this Creative Commons License.

The license can be read at creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/ (that page links to other language versions of the license, and the full legal code).

Brion has changed the site settings, so the meta data of the wikis should state they are now CC-BY. However, manually created pages may need to be updated. MediaWiki namespace pages may need changing if they had been edited previously. Pages that might need changing include: MediaWiki:Copyright, MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning, MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning2, and MediaWiki:Copyrightpage.

I would appreciate it if you could translate this message into Bulgarian so that all members of the community are aware of the change.

Thanks. Angela Beesley 22:13, 24 септември 2005 (UTC)[отговор]

I'm pleased to announce the creation of two new Wikinews editions, Thai Wikinews and Arabic Wikinews!! This brings the total number of Wikinews editions to 18 editions. Please welcome these new editions, and keep an eye on their energy and productivity! - Amgine 22:28, 12 декември 2005 (UTC)[отговор]

International Wikinews Writing Contest (IWWC)

Please translate this message into Bulgarian.

Hi,

I've written a draft page for the first International Wikinews Writing Contest. Please comment on or edit the rules and instructions, register as a contestant, and translate the page into other languages. I suggest that the contest will start on September 1, 2005. The contest is among individuals, so it doesn't matter how small or large an edition is.

We need judges from all language editions. We need prizes. We need contestants. Most importantly, I think, is that we get the word out about the contest. So please tell other people on IRC about it. I also think that it might be a good idea to promote it in MediaWiki:Sitenotice.--Eloquence

Wikinews Interview of the Month

The Wikinews project is looking for interview candidates on Meta at the Interview of the Month page.

In December Jimbo Wales was interviewed in the International Wikinews IRC channel by four interviewers. There were articles written in 6 languages from that one interview, and many people suggested the collaboration from many languages be continued with more interviews.

Interview candidates are proposed, and people vote as to which candidates they would like to see interviewed. The candidates are prioritized by those gaining the greatest number of interested voters, and are then contacted to arrange a possible interview in the early half of the month. The first candidate to agree to a live IRC interview will be the subject.

Interview candidates may be proposed up to three months in advance. Interviews may be moderated in any Wikinews language, with the contributors from that language moderating the interview.

If you have any questions I can help with, I can be contacted on one of my many talk pages (meta is another), via e-mail, and often on IRC. - Amgine 03:08, 29 декември 2005 (UTC)[отговор]
